After a bit of time off, and with encouragement from many of you, I am reviving the Common Sense At Work Blog with the commitment to making it more informative and helpful than ever.
Beyond the cosmetics of a new look, the experts who know about these things have improved the functionality of it.
In addition to pertinent and pity comments on workplace issues that impact your career, I will provide specific career advice as requested by individuals. Said another way, you are invited to post comments about challenges you are dealing with in your career and I will give you my best advice via the blog. This will be done in such a way that your identity will be protected.
You can help others by sharing your thoughts and experiences. Post away!

With the year coming to a close, it is a good time to take inventory of your performance in 2007 and the assets you take into 2008.
Have you accomplished your goals for 2007? If not, do you still have time to do the job? Where did you fall short? Why?
Take the days of December to set your goals for next year. What tools will you require? What will you need to do to make 2008 the best year ever in your career?

I take it that you are no longer employed in that snake pit. I sympathize with you in your bad experience. It no doubt seems to you that you have been damaged, but I urge you to back off and put the experience in perspective. You are better off getting out of that destructive environment.
People who know your former employer will understand your situation.
Unless you have an urgent need for income, take some time off. There’s little going on in the employment market at this time of year. Rest. Enjoy the holidays. Prepare yourself to start a new phase of your career after January 1. Bring your resume up to date.
Let your friends and associates know you are available for a new job.
I’ll be glad to take a look at your resume and cover letter to see if I can suggest improvements.
Dwelling on this bitter experience will wear you down and handicap you in your job search.
I wish you success!
Ramon
I was employed in a management position in a healthcare environment.
I have been wanting a professional venue to vent my disappointment in upper level management at this place.
I have never in 40 years ,in my profession witnessed cursing ,screaming and oounding of fists when dressing down a co-worker in front of other employees. This was, and I can assume is still the behavior of the CEO of this small orgaanization. This “style” was enabled also by the CFO and my immediate supervisor. One employee was so demeaned over a period of time that of course ,she quit and I hope is gainfully employed elsewhere. I still have invasive thoughts about this “Holy Trinity of Treachery” This is a service related company and I am in a small town,so there was no use in reporting any of this. The “Board ” was well aware of this behavior and turned its head in lieu of sustaining the “Mission”
Thanks for listening.
Many thanks for your thoughtful and thought-provoking comments.
Comments from others welcome. How do you define success?

Hi Ramon – Many people think that if they get that dream job, or get the recognition they want from their peers, or get that house or car, they be finally be happy and achieve success. Actually, a person needs to feel happy and feel successful inside, before they can achieve become successful on the outside. That is a real secret of being accomplished and self-actualized.
I spent the last seven years hoping / knowing I would be happy and successful, if only I got that dream job I wanted. When I did get it, I had no resources, no wealth of knowledge, no connections, to offer to it. Consequently I failed miserably after six months. Looking back on it, it was the wrong job for me (my skills and talents). I had lied to myself about what I wanted, what I was good at, and what would make me happy.
I am learning to accept my self completely, and pursue the thing that I am passionate about. Happiness is not something you hold off on, until you get to your goal. It’s what you enjoy now as you work towards your goals.
